Taxi/HGV/PCV Medicals
To obtain your provisional Category C licence (HGV/Bus), you must undergo a mandatory driver medical. Renewal is required at age 45 and then every 5 years until age 65, when it becomes an annual requirement. Always verify the expiry date on column 11 on the back of your license.
The examination, which typically takes around 30 minutes (depending on your history), is conducted by a doctor who completes your D4 medical form.
The Medical Assessment
The examination assesses your fitness to drive Group 2 vehicles and entails:
Physical Checks: An eyesight test using a Snellen chart and blood pressure checks to meet DVLA criteria.
Medical History: You’ll complete a questionnaire on your health and medical history.
Group 2 Standards: You will be questioned extensively on conditions like epilepsy, seizures, insulin-treated diabetes, and other medical issues to ensure you meet the strict standards required for a Group 2 license.
The doctor completes the D4 form based on your answers, medication details, and the findings of the physical examination.
