OEUK Emergency Response Team (ERT) Medical

Due to the acute and life-threatening situations they manage, ERT personnel in oil and gas must meet a higher standard of physical fitness. Consequently, the OEUK ERT Medical requires additional assessments, which have been temporarily adjusted by OEUK to accommodate pandemic restrictions.

This medical includes the Chester Step Test, a reliable aerobic evaluation that gauges your fitness by measuring how well your heart recovers from controlled exertion.

Test Details: The Chester Step Test is a multi-stage assessment where you step onto and off a 30 cm (12-inch) step at a rate set by a metronome, increasing speed every two minutes until you reach approximately 80% of your maximum heart rate. This aerobic fitness test must be performed annually, in addition to the biennial basic offshore medical.

Timing: You should set aside approximately 30 minutes for the ERT medical; the duration will be longer if combined with your standard offshore medical.
